Overall Eligibility
The candidate must be an Indian National (including OCI Cardholders) and satisfy eligibility pathway A or B.
Indian National, including Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) Cardholders under Section 7A of the Citizenship Act, 1955.
Pathway a Master's or Equivalent
Alternative 1 of 2. Master's degree with 55% marks, or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed, in a concerned, relevant or allied subject from an Indian University. The listed concerned, relevant or allied subjects are MA in Linguistics / LAMM, Ph.D. in Linguistics / Linguistics (LAMM), and NET/SET/SLET: Linguistics. Relaxation in the percentage of marks will be given as per the rule of the Government of India.
Alternative 2 of 2. Equivalent degree from an accredited foreign University.
Pathway a NET, SLET, SET or Ph.d. Requirement
NET/SLET/SET is not a requirement for Master's Programmes in disciplines for which NET/SLET/SET is not conducted by the UGC, CSIR or a similar test accredited by the UGC.
Education
Ph.D. Degree awarded in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and their amendments from time to time, as the case may be; such candidates are exempted from NET/SLET/SET.
Exam qualification
Cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or CSIR, or a similar test accredited by the UGC such as SLET/SET.
Other
Ph.D. candidates registered prior to 11 July 2009 are governed by the then existing Ordinances/Bye-Laws/Regulations of the degree-awarding institution and are exempted from NET/SLET/SET, subject to: the Ph.D. awarded in regular mode only; thesis evaluated by at least two external examiners; an open Ph.D. Viva-Voce conducted; two research papers published from the Ph.D. work with at least one in a referred journal; and at least two papers based on the Ph.D. work presented in conferences or seminars sponsored, funded or supported by the UGC, ICSSR, CSIR or any similar agency. Fulfillment of these conditions is to be certified by the Registrar or Controller of Examinations of the University.
Eligibility Pathway B
Ph.D. degree obtained from a foreign university or institution ranked among the top 500 in the World University Ranking, at any time, by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), The Times Higher Education (THE) or the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
