NET, SLET, SET or Qualifying Ph.d. Pathway
Education
Alternative 1 of 2. Ph.D. awarded in accordance with applicable UGC Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil. / Ph.D. Degree Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and amendments, qualifying for exemption from NET, SLET or SET One accepted exemption pathway.
Alternative 2 of 2. Ph.D. from a foreign university or institution ranked among the top 500 in QS, Times Higher Education or Academic Ranking of World Universities at any time Alternative foreign-Ph.D. eligibility pathway.
Exam qualification
Alternative 1 of 2. NET conducted by UGC or CSIR One accepted eligibility pathway.
Alternative 2 of 2. SLET or SET, or a similar test accredited by UGC One accepted eligibility pathway.
Pre-11 July 2009 Ph.d. Exemption Conditions
Applies to candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme prior to 11 July 2009 who seek exemption from NET, SLET or SET.

- At least two research papers published from Ph.D. work, with at least one in a refereed journal
- At least two papers based on Ph.D. work presented in conferences or seminars sponsored, funded or supported by UGC, ICSSR, CSIR or a similar agency
