Eligibility
Common Eligibility
Age
- Minimum age 18 years as on 01.07.2026
- Maximum age 30 years as on 01.07.2026, subject to prescribed relaxations SC/ST candidates receive five years relaxation and OBC-NCL candidates three years. The CEN also specifies separate relaxations for Ex-Servicemen, serving Railway staff, quasi-administrative Railway employees, widowed or divorced or judicially separated women and Course Completed Act Apprentices.
Nationality
Must satisfy the citizenship or nationality conditions prescribed in CEN 01/2026 Eligible categories include citizens of India and specified citizens or subjects, refugees and persons of Indian origin subject to Government of India eligibility certificate requirements where applicable.
Medical fitness
- Must satisfy A-1 medical standard and prescribed ALP vision and physical fitness requirements Distant vision must be 6/6, 6/6 without glasses with fogging test, near vision Sn. 0.6, 0.6 without glasses, and candidates must pass prescribed colour, binocular, field, night and mesopic vision tests.
- Candidates who have undergone LASIK or other corrective refractive eye surgery are not eligible
Educational Alternatives
Any one of the prescribed qualification pathways in Annexure A is acceptable.
Alternative 1 of 4. Matriculation or SSLC plus ITI from an NCVT or SCVT-recognized institution in a prescribed ALP trade One of the alternative qualification pathways. The qualification must be possessed by the application closing date.
Alternative 2 of 4. Matriculation or SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in a prescribed ALP trade One of the alternative qualification pathways.
Alternative 3 of 4. Matriculation or SSLC plus three-year Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Automobile Engineering, or a combination of streams of these disciplines, from a recognized institution One of the alternative qualification pathways.
Alternative 4 of 4. Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Automobile Engineering or qualifying combinations of those engineering streams Engineering degree is acceptable in lieu of the three-year engineering diploma.

Selection process

First Stage CBT
CBT-1 is a 60-minute screening examination with 75 questions and one-third negative marking for each wrong answer. CBT-1 marks are not counted in the final panel.

Second Stage CBT
CBT-2 consists of Part A with 100 questions in 90 minutes and Part B with 75 questions in 60 minutes. Part B is qualifying with 35% required for all candidates. One-third negative marking applies.

Computer Based Aptitude Test
Candidates shortlisted from CBT-2 must qualify each CBAT test battery separately with a minimum T-score of 42. CBAT is conducted only in English and Hindi and has no negative marking.

Document Verification
Candidates shortlisted according to combined CBT-2 Part A and CBAT merit must produce all original documents and two sets of self-attested photocopies.

Medical Examination
Appointment is subject to passing the prescribed A-1 Railway medical fitness examination.

Selection summary
The recruitment process comprises CBT-1, CBT-2, Computer Based Aptitude Test, Document Verification and Medical Examination. CBT-1 is screening only. Final merit is based on 50% weightage from Part A of CBT-2 and 50% weightage from CBAT among candidates qualifying all required stages.
Eligibility notes
The post requires the prescribed Matriculation or SSLC plus ITI, Course Completed Act Apprenticeship, Diploma or Engineering Degree qualification pathway, age 18 to 30 years as on 01.07.2026 subject to prescribed relaxations, and A-1 medical fitness. Candidates who have undergone LASIK or other corrective refractive surgery are not eligible for ALP.
Application instructions
Candidates must submit one online application to only one RRB through an official participating RRB website. The chosen RRB and details entered in the Create an Account form cannot be changed. Applications opened on 15.05.2026 and closed at 23:59 on 14.06.2026. Fee payment for submitted applications was permitted until 16.06.2026 at 23:59. The modification window ran from 17.06.2026 to 26.06.2026 at 23:59 with a non-refundable modification fee of ₹250 per occasion.
Important notes
The original detailed CEN notified 11,127 ALP vacancies. Railway Board letter No. E(MPP)2026/26/1 dated 29.09.2026 approved an enhancement of 3,500 additional ALP vacancies across specified zones, supporting a revised total of 14,627. The enhancement letter directs zonal Railways to place additional indents in OIRMS while following reservation norms.
